GREY SCHEDULE FOR SPRING 2015! BOSTON RFC NOT ON IT!

It looks like our friends up in Boston will go undefeated again…since they aren’t on our schedule. PLEASE REVIEW CAREFULLY! There are open dates that Burt plans on filing, and Block Island has changed as well. There will be early starts for the Irish Wolfhounds game and the New Haven B game. Volunteers Needed for Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games

The deadline for employees to register to volunteer to help at the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games in Simsbury, Connecticut is two days away—Friday, February 13. Volunteers can serve a variety of roles. Some are athlete escorts, event timers and event coordinators, helping athletes prepare for the competition and take off their gear after they complete. Other volunteers cheer, coordinate registration, work inside at the Olympic Village for athletes and distribute medals. Eversource is hosting cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at the Simsbury Area Work Center, and speed skating and figure skating at Simsbury’s International Skating Center. Sign up at soct.vsyshost.com or go to the Special Olympics Connecticut home page (www.soct.org) and click on “Winter Games.” Please sign up as an employee of Eversource by using the appropriate drop-down in the affiliation category. If you have additional questions, call the Special Olympics Connecticut volunteer information toll-free hotline at 1-888-289-7697.
I will be managing the cross country ski/snow shoe course again this year if you want to send this out to the Grey for volunteers.
Thanks.

2015 Blood Drive was a Great Success

Thank you everyone who helped us out this year run a great event.  Thank you to everyone at the Connecticut Grey, Mitchell College Rugby, Mob Rugby, SCSU Rugby, Connecticut Jammers, Hartford Wanderers, and Hartford Roses.  It was really great to see all these rugby players come together for a great cause.

Thank you as well to Brian and everyone at the Red Cross (the volunteers at the front desk were just amazing as well as were all the nurses).

We ended the day with 75 Pints – which is a record.  Great Job everyone.

GREY WIN A MORAL VICTORY VS CT JAMMERS! PATRIOTS STILL DOWN 0-2 TO NY GIANTS IN SUPER BOWL WINS AFTER BEATING SEAHAWKS

CT GREY VS CT JAMMERS

The GREY VS CT JAMMERS annual wheelchair rugby match was played last Saturday and the Grey eked out a moral victory in their 35-21 loss to our friends  the Jammers. I say “moral victory” because we didn’t figure out  the rules until well into the game…and because no alcoholic beverages were consumed until later in the day… I think a few beers might have loosened up the Grey considerably…  And because Ed Carr wasn’t with us…opting for the beaches of St Lucia instead…the Jammers were greatly relieved that Ed wasn’t there …they are scared of his haircut…and took full advantage of us. Hoppy…isn’t that a great name for a Jammer was looking for Ronco…he wanted to remind him of a nickname that Ronco acquired some years ago…But Tommy was not available. Some how Mike Meyer became the spokesman for the event and his comments were broadcast on some TV station. Please see his comments at this link…http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/on-air/as-seen-on/Rugby-on-Wheels_Hartford-290466701.html… Many thanks to all the CT GREY who showed up, made a contribution to the Jammers and who made my Sunday a bit less productive than it otherwise would have been.

BLOOD DRIVE FEB 7, 2015

Come on you bunch a Nancy Boys, Sallys and Girly Men… donate some blood this weekend…God knows that we’ve all used some up over the years…Just replacing what Leone has sucked out of the system requires ALL of us to show up. Mac and Mike Meyer have done a great job is organizing the event and making sure that the wait time for the blood letting is minimal… Don’t be like a prominent back…a well known fullback in fact, who is terrified of needles and can’t bring himself to donate…and for once it isn’t because of …well, you know. Here are the details:

Hi everyone, our 4th annual blood drive is this weekend and we are 33 Names light.  We need 33 more people to sign up asap or the Red Cross is going to give us less staff to take blood.  We need everyone to sign up today.  Please take 2 minutes and call the number below or go online (the number is faster).

Thanks, Mike Meyer

SPRING SCHEDULE

I don’t have it yet so quit bugging me. As soon as Burt gives it to me I will post it. I hope to have at least a partial lineup this weekend.

GREY NEWS

Not much to report other than the usual debauchery… Although rumor has it that Mike Haynes has recruited some new guys… who claim to be willing to play pretty much anywhere…except prop. Jesus, no wonder I drink.  Leone is still whinging about his shoulder and somebody got their wife pregnant in this off season… We may have to make the rugby season a year round affair to prevent any more of that nonsense…. This is a Masters Team after all and we can’t have our players being distracted by babies. Babies! What next…?

GREY NEWS! PAY ATTENTION YOU MEATBALLS!

ANNUAL CT GREY vs CT JAMMERS WHEELCHAIR RUGBY GAME

And you thought Bud Harvey was already in a wheelchair but no, you chuckleheads….he isn’t …but he will be at the Annual Match on SATURDAY JANUARY 31,2015  from 12:00 to 3:00 PM….that’s in the afternoon for all you backs… get your mani and pedi done in the morning… The NEW LOCATION is Chapter 126 Sports and Fitness 47 Upson St Bristol CT 06010. Please RSVP Kevin Mac, the little bastard at kevinmac14@yahoo.com or  at 860-608-9046 so he can make the necessary arrangements for refreshments. This is a great afternoon with some great guys and special athletes who usually kick our asses. Please join us…If Bud can get a pass from the assisted living facility…you should be able to make it. Bring your kids…it will be a great lesson for them as well.

GREY GEAR

A number of you have been complaining about not being able to get Grey gear and Captain Bill Bishop has taken your concerns to heart and made the following arrangements so you all can be appropriately dressed for the upcoming season… I have no idea which shirt they want you to buy and I don’t care either… There is some talk about yet another new shirt of some sort…to which I respond…What new shirt?

The Ruggers CT Grey Team Store is now operational. Several items were out of stock last season and are now being re-stocked. We are currently pre-ordering jerseys for the Spring season.  What ever you order by February 7th should arrive in time for our first spring match along with any other items you order.
We recommend that own both a Grey and a Maroon match jerseys. Traditionally the Maroon jersey was for Saranac only but last fall we wore them against Worcester since their jersey colors were too similar. We also want to have our team all wearing the same colors rather than the “Odds and Sods” look we usually put out.
here is the link:
OMISSIONS AND ERRATA
I don’t admit mistakes very often but I did make one serious omission in listing the winners of awards at the AAB a couple of weeks ago when I neglected to announce the winner of this years Rugger Hugger Award… The lovely Allison Barry was named the 2014 Rugger Hugger for her efforts to document the exploits of her man… Kevin “Baldy” Trammel on and off the pitch. Perhaps I was shocked into omitting her from the list of winners by the brevity of her acceptance speech…which was and I quote in full… “Thank you”.  This was a first in the history of the AAB.
