Grey, a note from Tom Stauffer:
[Executive summary - bring your used ink cartridges to our home game May 19th]
I miss the pitch…. the Grey have a long history of helping various community organizations. The Ellington High School Opening Knight Players were honored with being selected to attend the 2012 Fringe Festival, in Edinboro, Scotland this August. A group of about 30 students and teachers will attend the this international theater festival. http://www.edfringe.com/
To help offset the cost, the Opening Knight Players are collecting used ink cartridges. What I am asking you to do is to collect ink cartirdges from home, and work, if possible, and bring cartridges to Grey Home game on May 19. If you have a large collection of cartridges at work, please email me, and I will make arrangements to come to your work location to pick up your donation. Thanks for you support.
All the best,
A note from Captain Lou:
Last away match in Boston this weekend before Franconia which is the first
week of June. Please make an effort to support the Club on the road.I would think
we will have 20 or so players but we may have trouble fielding a proper back
line.Levinson and Peruccio are in and I would think Charlie and Chabot will make
it but we need at least three more. This should be a good hard competitive
match. If you are up to the challenge try and rearrange you schedule so you can
make it.The next three matches are home where the playing time is shared.Let me
know your plans so we can have good match against the Wolhounds.
The CT SBRO board is very excited to award Madison with the opportunity to host the 2012 CT SBRO State High School Rugby Championships Sunday, May 27th . U-19 Madison Rugby program will host the CT State Rugby Championships in Madison at the Surf Club facilities. With 22 men’s teams, D1, D2, D3 and 4 women’s teams this will sure to be an exciting event as it has been in the past. The Madison U-19 Rugby program is establishing a foundation to flourish in our town and provide one more venue for high school age kids to participate in a world-class sport. The opportunity to present a High School Rugby Championship in Madison will bring recognition regionally and nationally. Madison and the Surf Club venue are like no other in the state. Beach, picnic/barbecue pits, playgrounds, sail boating area, 4 rugby fields with stadium facilities right at the beach. It is my hope to make the event one with which Madison’s U19 Program, our rugby community and town will be proud of. With your presence and help this will be a first class event. We cordially invite you to the event and invite and need any volunteer help you can provide. Our focus of aid will be 1. parking/ticketing, 2. fields/facilities, 3. Cooking/concessions.
I hope to count on the Grey for help. Please respond to firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm helping out in any large or small way.
Thanks you in advance,
The Third Annual Jonesy Open will be held May 14 at the Capital Hills Golf Course in Albany, NY. The Connecticut Grey will be sponsoring a tee and if you’d like to contribute, follow the link below. If you’d like to participate keep reading…
The 4-man scramble format tournament is held each year to raise money to help support Mike “Jonesy” Jones, long-time front row player for the Albany Knickerbockers RFC, and his family. Jonesy sustained a severe spinal cord injury in a scrum collapse while playing in an Old Boys game in Ft. Lauderdale, and his paralyzed from the neck down. With the help of dedicated health care professionals and friends, Jonesy continues his recovery, but still has a long way to go.
Entry fee for player is $150, and sponsorship levels for the tournament begin as low as $200 for a tee box sign. Please consider purchasing a tee box sign from your club or entering a foursome.

Grey 31 Japan 19
We got our first home victory against Japan on Saturday. Thanks to the six front row players who played for Japan. Thanks to Brendon Coffey for reffing. We scored five tries and Jay Chabot kicked three conversions. Japan scored two tries going downhill in the first half for a 12-5 lead. Jeff Synider scored the first try, with Matt Leonard and Jason Smith scoring two each in the second half. We did well when we kept the ball tight with mauls and pick and goes. Jay Chabot did a great job fielding kicks and returning them with good field position. Ed Carr stole three linouts and won our own. Sets were solid and we turned over a couple scrums. Matt Leonard, James Ackman, Mike Powers, Jason Smith led the attack in the forwards. MOTM to Jeff Snider who hit the gain line hard on offense and defense. Good win but need to raise the level next week when we travel to Canton,Mass. to play the Wolhounds.

Grey 14 Morris 0
Grey 12 Bayonne Bombers 7
We traveled to Morris with 18 players. Thanks to all for making the effort to
travel and bring home two victories. In the Morris match we spent most of the
time in their half on the attack.Darryl Cecarrelli scored the first try after
about 8 minutes.Brendan Coffey scored the second try later in the match.Brendan
did an excellent job at Fullback all day.Bayonne was a team that came out
crashing hard with forwards and centers. We played good defense and only allowed
one score early in the match.Jay Rubino stripped a ball from one of their backs
.Charlie Mattison scooped it up and then passed to Darryl Garrison for a
try.Kirk Peruccio scored the game winner on a long kick and chase.Great job by
Jason Smith,Jim Burke, and Rick Truncali tackling rucking and getting things
going in the forwards.MOTM to Burt Hale who tackled, rucked and counter rucked
and was instrumental in the five minute goal line stand we had.It was a great
day of Rugby on dusty pitch with hardly any grass.Next week home against Japan.
